Occasionally at events or parties, we will have generators, sandbags, and stakes for a variety of reasons. Generators provide essential power, whereas sandbags and stakes can help prevent accidents due to wind or unexpected weather conditions. Here are some tips to ensure safety around each item:
Generators
- They should only and always be operated outdoors
- Ensure adequate airflow is around the generator
- It should be placed on a dry, level surface to prevent tipping
- Avoid overloading the generators by connecting to many attractions at once
- Use heavy-duty extensions cords designed for outdoor use
- Store fuel is approved containers away from the generators
- Clean up any fuel spills immediately
Sandbags
- Always lift with your legs, not your back
- Ensure sandbags are placed securely to prevent shifting or toppling; they are best placed around the base of the attraction, focusing on areas that are most susceptible to wind or movement
- Place away from walkways
- Provide the necessary weight to anchor structures firmly
- Ensure sandbags are evenly distributed
- Use straps or ropes to tie sandbags to the attraction for added stability
