Wind chill can turn a pleasant outdoor event or party into a frigid ordeal. But with a little proactive planning, you can keep your guests warm and comfortable, even on the windiest of days. Here are some tips:
Pre-Event Planning:
- Check the Forecast: Stay updated on the latest weather predictions, including wind chill advisories. You can check the weather at: AccuWeather. We recommend checking daily at minimum one week in advance leading up to the event. At Record-A-Hit, changes can be made within 24 hours of the event date. Your Sales/Event Rep will be in communication with you 48 hours prior to your event if any immediate changes do need to happen.
- Communicate with Guests: Inform your guests about the potential for windy conditions and suggest warm clothing options.
- Prepare Your Venue:
- Outdoor Events: Consider renting wind barriers, tents that are covered on all side, or Portable Propane Heaters.
- Have a Backup Plan: If possible, have a backup plan in case the event needs to be postponed or canceled. We strongly encourage having an indoor location as a backup!
Day-of Tips:
- Provide Warmth:
- Warm Beverages: Offer hot cocoa, tea, or coffee to warm guests from the inside out.
- Warm Blankets: Provide blankets or throws for guests to snuggle up in.
- Hand Warmers: Distribute hand warmers to keep guests’ hands toasty.
- Create Windbreaks:
- Natural Barriers: Utilize trees, buildings, or other natural structures to block the wind.
- Artificial Barriers: Set up tents or tarps to create sheltered areas.
- Adjust Your Schedule: If the wind chill is extreme, consider shortening your event or moving indoor activities to earlier in the day. Wind chill can happen anytime the temperature is below 50°F (10°C).
Some of our attractions have winter weather ratings of 40°F which includes the wind chill. Your Sales/Event Rep will be in communication with you 48 hours prior to your event if any immediate changes do need to happen. We will do our utmost best to try and give the best possible attraction replacements to fit your event needs to ensure a successful event.
Remember, a bit of preparation can go a long way in ensuring your guests stay warm and comfortable, even on the coldest of days. By following these tips, you can host a successful event, regardless of the weather.
